We are seeking proposals from South Australian-led creative teams for a two-week creative development residency at Hart’s Mill, Port Adelaide, Kaurna Yerta, in the leadup to and inclusive of Adhocracy.
What are we looking for?
We are interested in projects that:
-Explore ideas, research questions, provocations and concepts;
-Are culturally, politically and socially informed and relevant;
-Provide a methodology for genuine experimentation (with consideration of areas such as decolonisation, collaboration, technology, interdisciplinary practice, climate, community engagement, as relevant);
-Are a genuine collaboration between a creative team;
-Are new works in the early stages of development that can benefit from this type of hothouse opportunity.
Key information
The selected project will undertake a two-week creative development residency at Hart’s Mill (in either the Flour Shed or the Packing Shed) from Monday 22 August to Sunday 4 September, inclusive of Adhocracy itself. Like other selected projects, the Hart’s Mill residency project will feature in the public program, presenting one talk, showing or other activity on each of the three-night public program (2-4 September).
The selected project will receive $6000 towards artist fees and materials. You will also receive some additional curatorial, production and documentation support from Vitalstatistix.
This is an opportunity for collaboration, experimentation, creative development, and feedback from other artists and audiences.
If you haven’t attended or participated in Adhocracy before we highly recommend you check out the 2020 and 2021 sites, the 2019 public program and short documentary videos from previous years.

FAQs & Advice for Hart’s Mill residency
Can I visit Hart’s Mill before I apply? No, that is currently not possible. Contact us for further information if required.
Do all the artists I am working with need to be South Australian? No, they don’t all need to be however the residency must primarily benefit South Australian artists and be led by them. However, a well considered non-SA collaborator/s will absolutely be thought of positively if it makes sense for the project.
Can I do the residency at a different time? No, it must be undertaken in the fortnight leading into and inclusive of Adhocracy.
