Can we re-imagine the ‘creative city’ beyond gentrification, real estate, and high-end hospitality? What role can art and culture play in creating a sustainable city built to serve citizens not property development?

The event will include a walk to highlight some key sites of community campaigning, resistance and urban redevelopment in the inner Port Adelaide area; followed by a panel, with Vitalstatistix’s Director, Emma Webb, in conversation with: Aunty Margaret Brodie; Anthony Coupe, Director of Mulloway Studio; Lindl Lawton, Senior Curator of the South Australian Maritime Museum; and Michelle Hogan, union activist and Chair of the Port of Adelaide National Trust.

This is followed by some fantastic other talks and conversations with Australian and international cultural activists and academics; including Dan Hill, based in the Swedish Innovation Agency, Stockholm,Rory Hyde, Associate Professor of Architecture at University of Melbourne, Sebastian Olma, activist from Amsterdam Alternative, and Luca Bergamo, Vice-Mayor Rome and Deputy-Mayor Cultural Development (2016-21), Secretary General Culture Action Europe, co-Founder the Rome Charter, a manifesto for citizens’ cultural rights to the city.
