Important information regarding COVID-19 and Adhocracy

Vitalstatistix is proceeding with our annual call for proposals for our national experimental arts hothouse, Adhocracy.

Current public health measures mean that Adhocracy would not be able to go ahead as a physical event if held now, and we are unsure if this will change by the dates Adhocracy is scheduled for, 3-6 September 2020. We believe it is more than likely that the event will not go ahead.

Therefore, the projects selected for participation in Adhocracy through this call-out will receive their granted fee regardless of whether the event proceeds or not. Either way, we will publish a digital program and will work with selected artists to consider how you can undertake a short development (four days, as Adhocracy usually is) of your project alone; to explore online artists’ talks across the dates of Adhocracy; to plan travel if the event does go ahead; and to explore how we could support your work beyond 2020.

We have simplified the Adhocracy application process for 2020 – no production/technical specifications or budget are required. Instead we only want to hear about your idea, your creative team and you will select one of three amounts to apply for, based on the size of your artistic team.

We had planned this year to offer an opportunity for South Australian artists to undertake a two-week residency at Hart’s Mill in the leadup to Adhocracy. If we end up proceeding with the event, we will offer this opportunity directly to a South Australian team already selected through the national call out.

We are offering our early career curator paid internship again, alongside our general call for project proposals.

We thank the Australia Council for supporting these changes to their funding of Adhocracy for 2020. Vitalstatistix is committed to offering more opportunities responding to the devastating impact of COVID-19 on our sector, so please stay tuned and stay in touch.

Applications close midnight Monday May 25. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by early July, and we will also announce whether the physical event will be able to proceed at that point.
