Returning to South Australia after touring and performing in Europe throughout 2018, Felicity Boyd and Zoe Gay recognised South Australia needed new artistic energy and grass-roots opportunities for local dancers. As a result of this need, Motus Collective was formed in January 2019. Throughout 2019 Motus Collective held its Interdisciplinary Jam Sessions at The Mill, to which artists of all disciplines were invited. This created a space for artists to meet, move, collaborate, explore and potentially set up new artistic networks and partnerships without the pressure to produce a performative product. Resulting from these sessions and ideas, Motus Collective employed performers for Vitalstatistix’ Adhocracy season and for Australian Dance Theatre’s Rough Draft, undertaking residencies throughout 2019 at The Mill, Finsart Studios, Australian Dance Theatre and Dance Hub SA. In 2020, Motus Collective were the recipients of the Mill Spotlight residency program and gained support from Carclew in beginning the creation of a series of cross-disciplinary filmic collaborations. Motus Collective have been installed throughout August at SALA La Land (Arthur Art Bar) as resident installation performers and have collaborated with Tom Borgas and Amber Cronin for their InSpace Development, Hyperobject.
