Adhocracy is Vitalstatistix’s annual national hothouse, supporting the creative development and critical discussion of experimental, multidisciplinary arts projects.

In 2021 we return to our intensive artist lab and festival-style public program, featuring eleven incredible Australian creative teams whose projects and new works-in-development span choreography and dance, performance and live art, poetry and text, ritual, social practice, sound, theatre, and visual art.

Three themes feature across the projects, speaking powerfully to the times we are in: acts of resisting, acts of remembering, and acts of caring. The program includes panels and workshops around these important conversations, alongside the host of artist talks, performance showings, one-on-one experiences, open studios, and installations on offer.

We are very sad that three of our participating projects, with artists based in NSW, will not be able to enter South Australia for Adhocracy 2021; however, these projects will undertake remote or hybrid residencies, and will feature in our panel, Spotlight on Sydney. We are now also expecting Victorian-based artists will also not be able to enter the state, and they will work with their collaborative teams online.

We are monitoring the latest COVID-19 restrictions closely and will adjust the program and event as needed. The schedule may change from what we have published here, however there will still be plenty to experience. Please be assured that Adhocracy 2021 will be a COVID-19 safe event – it may feel a bit different from previous Adhocracies but will still deliver you a feast of new art and ideas – maybe even a kind of temporary albeit socially distanced utopia! – something we all need right now.

Adhocracy is a unique offering in the Australian arts calendar – as a creative development opportunity for artists and as an insight into artistic process for lovers of art. It’s a festival of ideas meets intense art camp meets magic house party.
